The story

Walmart stores stay open while we build. Across more than 100 projects, HKC has rebuilt parking lots, expanded stores and renewed sales floors around shoppers and night crews.

HKC Construction is a national construction partner to Walmart Canada. The work runs from complete parking lot replacements and online grocery pickup expansions to roof and rooftop equipment replacements and rapid sales floor renovations, at Supercentres across the country. HKC has completed Walmart projects in every Canadian province, from Ontario to Selkirk, Manitoba and Airdrie, Alberta.

Every assignment is planned around a store that stays open: work zones behind hoarding, overnight shifts coordinated with store managers and night crews, tools and materials kept off the sales floor, and each area handed back clean and safe before the doors open in the morning.

165,000 sq ft of multi-storey self storage, built in phases, from bare site to the last system switched on.

For Bluebird Self Storage, HKC Construction delivered large-scale, multi-storey storage facilities in multiple phases. The role covered the full sequence: site preparation, structural steel frame erection, interior fit-outs of the storage floors and the integration of every building system.

Affordable homes for the Region of Peel, renovated while people live in them.

Peel Living is the Region of Peel's affordable housing provider. HKC Construction works across Peel Living buildings in Mississauga on in-suite renovations and common-area upgrades, with temporary accommodation arranged for tenants when a suite has to be vacated during construction.

Every assignment happens in someone's home, so the work is planned around residents and each area is returned to service before the crew moves on. It runs under the Region's public-sector controls, often at several buildings at once.

The story

An industrial building in Mississauga, reborn as a 55,000 sq ft home for padel and pickleball.

HKC Construction converted an existing industrial building into The District, a 55,000 sq ft indoor club with 8 premium padel courts, 7 professional pickleball courts, a player cafe and juice bar, spectator lounges, and private offices and co-working space for members.

Padel courts are heavy: steel frames and structural glass walls on every court. Reinforced concrete slabs were designed to carry them, and the building systems were overhauled for a completely new use. Shadow-free, no-glare LED lighting covers the courts, while acoustics and space planning keep the sound of play out of the lounges and offices.

A plant of about 204,000 sq ft renovated for heavy food manufacturing, with towering new silos, while it kept producing 24 hours a day.

Crispy Just Baked is the bakery brand of TWI Foods, an Ontario producer of South Asian and Caribbean flatbreads. HKC Construction renovated the building, about 204,000 sq ft, and installed large-scale exterior silos that substantially expanded its bulk ingredient storage and automated processing capacity.

Taking the building from warehousing to heavy manufacturing meant deep structural modifications and reinforced floors to carry the silos and production equipment. The silo installation and the structural work were coordinated around live production, with no disruption to the plant's 24/7 operations.

About 65,000 sq ft of new space joined two operating food plants into one campus, without a single minute of unscheduled downtime.

TWI Foods, a producer of South Asian and Caribbean flatbreads, needed more production and shipping space at its Etobicoke site. HKC Construction managed the construction of about 65,000 sq ft of new processing, warehouse and shipping space that physically connects two operating buildings into one campus, with mechanical, electrical and fire-safety systems integrated across the new and existing structures.

Every manufacturing line stayed at full capacity. The work moved in self-contained phases behind sealed hard-wall barriers, with separate crew entrances, negative air pressure, a dedicated cleaning crew and utility tie-ins in narrow pre-approved windows, while the site superintendent coordinated daily with TWI's shipping team.

The result: zero minutes of unscheduled downtime, zero product contamination incidents and zero disruption to 24/7 shipping.

Inside Canada's busiest airport, HKC has renovated Air Transat's hangar, terminal and office spaces project after project since 2024, while aircraft and passengers keep moving.

Since 2024, Air Transat has relied on HKC Construction, project after project, for renovations and facility upgrades across its operations at Toronto Pearson International Airport: its maintenance hangar, terminal-side spaces and offices, from planned renovations to quick-turnaround service work.

An operating airport sets the rules. Access is controlled under airport authority security protocols, so every worker, tool and delivery is planned and cleared in advance. Aircraft maintenance carries on beside the work, so work zones, noise, dust and deliveries are organized around Air Transat's operations, and life-safety systems stay in service or are restored within tight windows.

Starbucks stores built and fitted out to exacting brand standards, on schedules set by opening day.

HKC Construction delivers fit-outs for new and existing Starbucks locations, following strict brand guidelines from layout to finishes.

On a recent new store, HKC took the project from initial planning through site preparation, framing, interior finishing and the electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, and met a tight schedule for a timely opening through close coordination with every subcontractor.

A recent complete renovation brought the interior and exterior up to the latest Tim Hortons branding, improved seating and customer traffic flow, upgraded the kitchen and service equipment, and used energy-efficient, sustainable materials.

From demolition day to reopening: Kelseys restaurants built, rebuilt and brought up to the brand's new look.

HKC Construction delivers new builds and renovations for Kelseys Original Roadhouse, including complex post-fire restorations that require structural and interior reconstruction.

A recent renovation covered demolition, structural upgrades, new furnishings, lighting and finishes, and an exterior facelift to the updated Kelseys branding. The schedule was phased to keep parts of the restaurant working while others were renovated, and the job began with a site-specific safety plan in place before any trade arrived.

Safer roofs and renewed interiors for Peel schools, including the school HKC's founders once attended.

HKC Construction delivers capital improvement work for the Peel District School Board, one of the largest school boards in Canada, from roof anchor replacements to interior restorations.

One of those projects took HKC's founders, Helen and Kosta Mentis, back to Fairwind Senior Public School in Mississauga, the school they attended. The renovation was delivered on time and with minimal disruption to school operations.

A design-build research lab for the Université de l'Ontario français, in downtown Toronto.

HKC Construction designed and built the GeoDesign laboratory at the Université de l'Ontario français, 9 Lower Jarvis Street in Toronto: an innovative space for research, used for graphic design, GIS mapping, large-format plotting and interactive touch-screen work.

Design-build put design and construction under one contract, so the lab's layout, power and technology were planned together from the start.
